Knowing whether you want a mobile or cell phone vs a Smart phone is normally based on what you would like to be able to do with the phone and what is the difference between the two.

A mobile phone is normally smaller and has its own external keyboard like traditional landline phone. They are generally designed to make and receive phone calls, send and receive Text Message (also known -Short Message service (SMS)), send photos or images and more recently many include simple internet services such as web browsing i.e. google and email.

A smart phone is more like a small, hand held computer because not only can it make and receive phone calls and text messages, it can store information, have additional features installed such as apps (Weather app, google search app, map and GPS apps). Smartphone also have large touch screen with internal keyboards like a desk top computer that will pop up on the screen to allow typing.
